“Love is the answer – but while you’re waiting for the answer sex raises some pretty good questions.” – Woody Allen
A few days ago Rafi and I overheard a conversation that went like this:
Woman 1: “Yung pamangkin ko lagi na lang sama ng sama sa boyfriend niya (my niece is always going out with her boyfriend)”
Woman 2: “Naku baka me nangyari na sa kanila (maybe something already happened between them).”
Woman 1: “Sabi ko nga dapat mag-GRO na lang siya kesa mabuntis ng boyfriend nya (I said she should become a GRO than to get pregnant by her boyfriend). ”
For information purposes GRO stands for guest relations officer. In the Philippines, that means someone who assists or dances in bars and sometimes agrees to sex for a certain amount of money.
Rafi and I looked at each other. We’re both thinking the same thing. What was that woman thinking?!
We know that desperate times call for desperate measures but going as far as wanting your niece to sell her body and sell sex for money is bordering insanity (ouch!).
Is this saying something about our country? Don’t we have other options to earn money? Not all people are privileged enough to have internet connection so they can earn money online and not all people have good education to get good positions in companies but there are other ways out of poverty.
If you’re thinking that there’s only one way to get out of your debts then STOP! There are many ways to get from rags to riches whether offline or online. You just need to find those other ways. You won’t regret it!
Shameless plug: You can always visit our site for tips and tricks in earning money offline or online. We’ll post some of our ideas in this site.

Money comes and goes. How one person aspires to earn money should never be questioned unless it has something to do with morality. Sex for instance is something, in my opinion, to be considered as a symbol of one’s love for another. Using it as a means to get paid is definitely wrong. Even someone who doesn’t have any wealth can aspire so become financially successful if he wills it. He just needs to do it the right way.

@jared, i agree. Unfortunately different people have different values. Other people will think that sex is a means to an end. Look at the woman who auctioned her virginity to the highest bidder just so she can pay for her tuition. That’s not love for another person.
OK I mainly stopped in to say thanks for dropping by my place and I hope to see you around more often.
I must ask though, auctioned? Huh What?? I never heard that…

Can’t comment but sigh whenever I hear things like that. It seems that this kind of “moral value”, selling someone’s body to compensate for a need, has become the norm among many (fortunately not most) of the younger and unguided generation of today.
Unfortunately, as you have said, not all Pinoys are privileged enough to have internet connection let alone have the basic computer knowledge so they can try to make money online.

@Dennis, thanks for dropping by too. Yes there’s someone who auctioned her virginity. It was news too since she already has a masters degree.
@bizphere, morals are what we grew up with. our morals differ from each other so the younger generation might think lightly about selling the body especially if they think they are following good morals and right conduct anyway. thanks for dropping by.
I just dropped by this site from Entrecard and didn’t expect to see that post on a “money making” blog
That said, who am I to judge other countries morals and traditions? Still… you are of course right, and things we take for granted like certain opportunities and even internet connections and not available to everyone.

@netpreneur, We are still a 3rd world country but we do hope to change that in the future. I just hope we retain good values and morals and not think like this woman had.
