NTC wants to earn money online too“A corporation’s primary goal is to make money. Government’s primary role is to take a big chunk of that money and give it to others.”-  Larry Ellison

Talk about ridiculous!

So before I can post in this rags to riches blog, comment to other blogs, upload pictures in my Multiply account, update my friendster info or basically do anything I do online, first I have to apply for a license just to post my content online.

How does that sound to you?

As per this drafted proposal by the Philippines National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the definition of content developer includes approximately five million of Filipinos addicted to friendster and online forums. For non-Filipinos info, Friendster is the number one social network in the Philippines as oppose to Myspace in America.

Although according to NTC they are encouraging the development of content and applications via mobile phones, the draft didn’t specify only mobile phones. In fact they even included online gaming via their definition of electronic games.

The hearing was supposed to be last January 22 but according to Mike Abundo they cancelled it at the last minute due to “further study”.

Five million Filipino Friendsters, three million Filipino Multipliers, two hundred fifty thousand Filipino Facebookers, sixty thousand Filipino Livejournalists, fifty seven thousand Filipino Plurkers, et cetera.

That’s a lot of license fees.

This takes a lot of study and will to implement it to make it work. NTC cannot even regulate text messages, how much more website content?

true, so true. that’s why they really need to re-think or re-word the drafted proposal.
